The Aggregate

Defined Contribution Plan Data

Explore the defined contribution market through aggregate Form 5500 filing information. Individual plan search and restricted datasets are not part of this public overview.

Public estimates use only f_5500 joined to f_sch_h on (ack_id, form_year). One latest filing is retained per form year and EIN/plan number; filings missing either identity field fall back to ack_id. Eligibility requires pension benefit code containing 2, DFE flag NULL, current plan year, at least 100 beginning-of-year participants, and non-null Schedule H gross end-of-year total assets. 401(k) code 2J takes precedence over 403(b) codes 2L/2M. Participants are partcp_account_bal_cnt when present, otherwise tot_partcp_boy_cnt. Headline assets are gross Schedule H total assets, not net assets. Each named Schedule H line is summed ignoring nulls; directly held securities and other is the gross total less the eight observed named line totals. This reconciled residual includes direct securities, cash, receivables, other assets, and any unreported line amounts; it is not a single product. Maturity requires form_year <= current UTC year - 2. A latest/prior pair must be consecutive and have at least 95% year-over-year row-count coverage in both etl_manifest source files (f5500 and sch_h), plus at least 95% of eligible plan/asset filings versus the prior year. These compare loaded source-year counts only; they do not estimate or imply coverage of all national filings. Selected pair: 2024/2023: f5500 and sch_h loaded row counts and eligible plan/asset filing counts each meet the 95% threshold. Loaded f5500 rows 2024/2023: 140958/143360; loaded sch_h rows: 87983/88999; eligible plan/asset filings: 66135/67092.

Loaded Form 5500 data currently ends at form year 2025. Form 5500 filings have a reporting and processing lag; the maturity cutoff is form year 2024 UTC. Data availability and source-row comparisons do not imply coverage of all national filings.
